Washington police said there are no obvious signs of any foul play in the death of a man this week.

Police were called about 10 p.m. Thursday, July 19, to a home in the 1100 block of Locust Street and found Neil Jaeger, 54, deceased. A friend discovered the man’s body, according to a report.

Police Chief Ken Hahn said family members had attempted to contact Jaeger that day but were unsuccessful and then they contacted police about 8:30 p.m. to check on him but the doors were locked and no one answered when officers went to the house.

The family then contacted a friend of Jaeger who forced open a basement door and found the man on a bed. It appeared that Jaeger had been deceased for several hours, according to the police report.

A cause of death was not immediately determined and the body was turned over to the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s office. Police said they are continuing the investigation.
