A Franklin County man was seriously injured early Thursday, Nov. 22, in a one-car crash west of Union.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said Christopher S. Simpson, 38, Union, was eastbound on Shotwell Road in a 2002 Volvo and failed to negotiate a curve. The car ran off the right side of the road and struck a rock and a tree, according to the preliminary patrol report.

Simpson, who was not wearing a safety belt, was taken by Gerald Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Washington.

The driver was cited for driving while intoxicated, according to an arrest report on the patrol's website.

The 1:20 a.m. crash happened 2.1 miles west of Highway 50, the patrol reported.
