Washington Woman Hurt in Highway 47 Crash
A Washington woman was seriously injured Sunday morning when the car she was driving crashed into a rock bluff on the west side of Highway 47, south of Steutermann Road.
Washington police said Stephanie Smith, 21, was northbound on Highway 47 when she lost control shortly before 8 a.m. Witnesses told police that they saw the car veer suddenly to the left and crash into the bluff, which is across from Norwood Trailer Court.
Police think the driver may have been distracted. Police said Smith was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by Washington firefighters. She then was transported by air ambulance to a St. Louis hospital for treatment.
