Boles and other area firefighters responded to two fires at the same Decker Road address Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Boles Fire Chief Jim Casey said at about 3 p.m. Wednesday his department was dispatched for a call of a vehicle on fire in a garage.

Casey told The Missourian his crews arrived to find the attached garage of a roughly 2,400-square-foot home on fire.

“There was one vehicle on the exterior of the garage on fire and two vehicles in the garage on fire,” he said. “The garage was well involved and (the fire) started extending into the house.”

Casey said his district struck a second alarm to get additional manpower on the scene to prevent the fire from spreading.

The fire didn’t get into the house beyond the kitchen, but did get into the attic.

Crews were able to pull down the kitchen ceiling and put out the fire, Casey said.

“After getting the fire under control, we were able to release (the companies providing mutual aid on the second alarm) rather quickly,” Casey said.

Washington, Union, Pacific, Eureka and Metro West fire districts all provided mutual aid, as well as Meramec Ambulance.

Firefighters were on the scene for about three hours Wednesday.

About 7 1/2 hours later, crews were called back to the scene for another fire.

Casey said that fire destroyed the rest of the home.

Crews battled the blaze from roughly 1:30-5:30 a.m. Thursday and again sounded a second alarm for additional manpower.

Casey didn’t say what either fire was caused by, noting that it was under investigation.
