In the wake of several recent burglaries of homes in the Washington and Union areas, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens to be extra vigilant and report suspicious people and vehicles.

Monday, Oct. 29, the department received reports that that thieves had entered homes through rear windows and doors and primarily stole jewelry and small items. The burglaries occurred in the morning and midday.

According to a report, it appeared that the burglars did not spend a lot of time inside residences.

The sheriff’s office said citizens also should report any people who may come to their door asking for directions, looking for individuals or missing animals.

In those cases, citizens should attempt to obtain a good description of individuals or vehicles, including a license number, and contact the sheriff’s office at 636-583-2560, or another local law enforcement agency, the sheriff’s office said.
