O'FALLON, Mo. (AP) — Authorities say a man suspected of shooting and wounding two St. Louis-area sheriff's deputies later was killed by law enforcement after he stabbed a police officer trying to arrest him.
Investigators say one St. Charles County deputy was shot in the wrist while another was shot twice in the arm during an ambush as they responded to reports of gunfire at a mobile home about 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
After a manhunt of more than four hours, authorities say the suspect, 61-year-old Richard Heeter of Wentzville, stabbed a St. Louis County police officer in the shoulder as he tried to capture Heeter. Other officers then shot and killed Heeter.
The stabbed officer was being treated at the scene.
