12-Year-Old Finds Discarded Meth Lab, Calls Police

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Springfield police say it's not often when a child finds and reports discarded methamphetamine labs, but that's what happened recently when a trio of 12-year-olds found a plastic bottle with tubing coming out from the top.
One of the girls kicked the bottle down the street to a nearby yard Jan. 5 before picking it up and realizing it had something to do with drugs. She dropped it and called police, who confirmed the bottle was what was left of a "one-pot" meth lab.
Springfield police Sgt. Bryan DiSylvester says the girls were somewhat lucky because the residue in the bottle wasn't as dangerous as other meth lab components.
DiSylvester, who heads the department's narcotics unit, says he doesn't recall any other cases in which a child was the one who discovered a discarded lab.
