3-Year-Old May Have Been with Dead Mom 4 Days Associated Press |

ST. PETERS, Mo. (AP) — Authorities in St. Charles County say a 3-year-old girl may have been alone in an apartment with her dead mother for up to four days.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/Kb8lIO ) reports that deputies went to an apartment near St. Peters Sunday night after 35-year-old Adrienne Embry's sister found her dead in the apartment. Embry's ex-husband told the newspaper she had weight-loss surgery recently. Authorities believe she may have died of complications.

Sheriff's Lt. Craig McGuire says the woman may have been dead two to four days. The girl appeared to be physically OK but was taken to a hospital for evaluation. It wasn't immediately clear if she was aware of what happened.

The girl was released to the custody of her mother's sister.
