COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — The University of Missouri says it will keep its academic publishing business open and drop plans for a new digitally-driven publishing operation.
The university announced Tuesday that the University of Missouri Press will stay in its current building and keep its current staff.
The announcement reverses a May 24 decision to replace the university's publishing business with a digital-driven alternative. That decision prompted protests on campus and around the country, with some authors asking the school to return their publishing rights.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/Pnsqvl ) nine employees have been asked to remain in their jobs but some already accepted other campus jobs.
An advisory committee will help guide the future of the press. Financial details of how the press will be subsidized are still being determined.
