Business of the Month Award Getting a Boost

The city of St. Clair is beefing up its business of the month recognition, and soon those rewarded will receive some additional recognition and thanks.

The business of the month recipient is honored during a St. Clair Board of Aldermen meeting each month. Currently, individuals representing the business receive a framed certificate and get to display a sandwich board at their business for the month.

The local business is selected by the St. Clair Area Chamber of Commerce, and sometimes is done through a random process.

Now, however, businesses will be nominated based on demonstrated community involvement, Chamber Executive Director Angela Crawford said.

“We’re looking for businesses that give back to the community,” she said. “We want to honor those who make a difference, and we want this to become a process to reward a business for doing good things in the community.”

Businesses do not have to be Chamber members to be recognized.

Under the new selection process, members of the St. Clair Merchants Committee, an arm of the Chamber, will pick monthly winners from nominations submitted. Nomination forms are available at the Chamber office and at Studio 66 Salon.

Crawford said the business of the month will receive 250 black and white fliers advertising that business. Merchants Committee members will distribute the fliers around the city, but the winning business must take the time to design the flier itself.

The monthly certificate also will be awarded, and the business will get to display the business of the month sandwich board.

If the recognized business is a Chamber member, it also will receive two free “hot deals” on the Chamber’s website as well as a free banner ad on the front page of the website for the month the business is honored. It also will be the featured business for the month.
