Havin Materials has been granted a conditional use permit to excavate aggregate material from a Meramec River gravel bar.
Havin requested a CUP to excavate sand and gravel from the gravel bar located on 137 acres of property on Sullivan Bottom Road, about 1.1 miles from Project Road in Prairie Township.
The Franklin County Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously March 19 to approve the CUP.
A public hearing last month lasted late into the evening as residents came before the board with concerns such as noise, safety, road damage and health issues.
Havin’s CUP will be in effect for two years and comes with several conditions.
Havin must resurface Sullivan Bottom Road with gravel and maintain the road throughout the life of the operation. The company also must operate according to all state and federal regulations and apply for any permits needed by other government entities, such as the Department of Natural Resources.
Another condition is Havin will only be able to use its own drivers and operate a maximum of three trucks owned or leased by the company. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
