The annual trick-or-treat tradition in St. Clair will take place during its usual time frame on Halloween.
Mayor Ron Blum declared 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31, as official hours for the city during the board of aldermen’s most recent meeting this month.
During that time, children are welcome to travel door to door in search of goodies.
St. Clair Police Chief Bill Hammack cautioned youngsters to be extra careful while trick-or-treating and reminded homeowners and motorists of a few safety tips.
He said children should walk while participating and remain on sidewalks whenever possible. They also should stop and look both ways before crossing a street and do so at an intersection and not between parked vehicles.
He also cautioned that youngsters should stay in familiar neighborhoods, only visit homes that have front porch lights turned on and are lit, carry a flashlight, make sure their costumes don’t drag on the ground or restrict sight, and that clothing should include reflective markings or tape.
And, Hammack said, children should not eat any candy until it is taken home and inspected by a parent.
Homeowners should make sure all items are cleared from sidewalks and driveways, keep pets indoors, keep areas in and around homes lit and provide only properly packaged candy or treats.
Motorists should drive slowly and attentively on all streets and neighborhoods.
Trunk or Treat
A trio of Baptist churches in St. Clair have provided The Missourian with information about sponsoring trick-or-treat opportunities for children on Halloween.
First Baptist Church, 450 E. Springfield Road, will conduct its annual trunk or treat night from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot in front of the church on the north side of Springfield Road.
Children in the community are invited to stop by and pick up some goodies, register for a drawing and receive free hot chocolate and popcorn. If inclement weather is present, the event will be moved indoors to the church’s fellowship hall.

At St. Clair Southern Baptist Church, 405 Park Drive, its fall outreach event is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. in the church parking lot. Area children are invited to stop and receive a bag full of goodies.

At Friendship Baptist, 630 S. Commercial Ave., trunk or treat is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. in the church parking lot. Free chili, hot cocoa, coffee and candy will be available.
The church’s Word 2U ministry also will be performing puppet shows during that time.
