A Sullivan man charged with one count of second-degree domestic assault continued to be held in the Franklin County Jail on Friday.
A warrant was issued through Franklin County Circuit Court on Thursday charging 38-year-old Kevin D. Parker after an incident occurred the evening before at the Family Motor Inn, 209 N. Service Road in Sullivan.
According to information from the Sullivan Police Department, Parker was charged and being held on a $5,000 bond after his girlfriend said she stabbed him in the arm in self-defense during a physical altercation.
Lt. Patrick Johnson of the Sullivan Police Department stated in a press release that Parker’s injury was not life-threatening and that he refused medical treatment.
The press release stated that at 12:44 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, Sullivan police officers responded to a room at the Family Motor Inn on a report of a stabbing victim. When officers arrived, it was determined that a domestic incident had occurred the night before between the Sullivan couple who were staying in the room.
Johnson told The Missourian that the stabbing had taken place the night before and the man and woman had left the motel at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday to go to the Sullivan Super 8, where a relative of one of them was staying.
Johnson said someone at the Sullivan Motor Inn who had talked to the girlfriend called the incident into the police department on Wednesday, and the investigation determined there were signs of the disturbance in the room.
The investigation led police to the Super 8, 601 N. Service Road.
Through the investigation, it was determined that Parker had been stabbed by his 40-year-old girlfriend, who also lives in Sullivan. Information stated that the woman indicated she had stabbed Parker in self-defense during the physical altercation.
