With just over a week to go until school starts for the fall term, 2012-2013 kindergarten numbers are running close to normal in the St. Clair and Lonedell areas.

At St. Clair Elementary School, Principal Nadine Myers said late last month that 170 children have been registered for kindergarten so far. She expects about 180, which would fall within the average range for an incoming class.

At Lonedell, Principal Jen Ulrich said 26 youngsters have enrolled for kindergarten so far, or one more than a year ago at the same time. The district ended last year with 30 kindergartners.

At St. Clare Catholic School, Principal Mary Hoffman said 16 kindergartners are signed up to attend.

For more information about kindergarten registrations, contact the St. Clair R-XIII School District at 636-629-3500, Lonedell R-XIV at 636-629-0401 or St. Clare Catholic at 636-629-0413.

Summer School

Summer school numbers in both the St. Clair and Lonedell districts showed a healthy student participation.

Figures provided by both school districts showed that more than 1,100 children attended during the sessions that started at the end of May and ran through the end of June.

In St. Clair R-XIII, summer school enrollment totaled 976 students at the four schools. At St. Clair Elementary, the number of registered students was 264, while the figure was 234 at Edgar Murray, 207 at the junior high school and 271 at the high school.

The attendance percentage was 94.2 at the elementary, 95.8 at Edgar Murray, 89 at SCJHS and 97.4 at SCHS.

At Lonedell, 190 students enrolled at the kindergarten through eighth-grade school. Average daily attendance was 152 for an 80 percent rate.

Lonedell also sent 24 high school-age students to St. Clair High School over the summer.
