The Pacific Park Board has set a deadline of Jan. 1, 2013, for completion of the project to simplify rental forms and establish appropriate fees for using the park facilities.

Addressing the full nine-member park board at the Sept. 10 meeting, Stephen Flannery, board president. said he is confident the board can now tackle the issue of prices and forms and move the project to completion quickly.

“Folks who want to use our parks for special events or sports events have been bouncing back and forth between the park board and city hall,” Flannery said. “If a company wants to rent a field for a softball picnic they should know the fees when they come before the park board. They should be able to take the form to city hall, show they’ve been to the park board like all municipal park systems around us.”

For more than a year the park board meetings, often short of a full board, have discussed details of the rental process, and the costs to rent portions of the park.

Some months there were no meetings because of difficulty in seating a quorum.

“This has gone on for a long time and we learned a lot in the process,” Flannery said. “I think we can complete new forms by the beginning of next year.”

Flannery asked Kelley Washam to email copies of the proposed changes to all members so they could be discussed at the next regular meeting.

“I think we’re far enough along that we can all look at the proposed changes and make some decisions,” Flannery said.
