The city of Pacific will soon close on the sale of property on Union Street to the Franklin County Catholic Church Real Estate Corporation, turning ownership of the property over to St. Bridget of Kildare Parish.

The single-story structure now houses the city-owned Meramec Valley History Museum at 206 W. Union St. The property consists of lots 70, 71 and 72 of the original town of Franklin, now the city of Pacific and includes the former residence building.

Aldermen approved an ordinance authorizing the sale of the property at their June 19 meeting.

St. Bridget Parish plans to use the building to relieve overcrowding at St. Bridget Elementary School, on the opposite side of Union Street.

Purchase price of the property was $140,000. The parties dealt directly with each other. No real estate broker, agent or sales person was involved.

City Administrator Harold Selby said the city hopes to close on the property by the end of June.

The history museum will be combined with the city’s welcome center in the former Clarence Mayle house on East Osage Street. A committee is currently putting together a business plan to operate the building.
