The city plans to amend its wine-tasting permit to include tasting events for beer and spirits.

Aldermen gave preliminary approval of the new law at their Dec. 4 board meeting.

City Attorney Dan Vogel said the change would bring city ordinances in coordination with state statutes.

The new law authorizes tasting permits for wine, malt beverages and distilled spirit tasting.

Any person who is licensed to sell intoxicating liquor in the original package at retail may apply for a special permit to conduct wine, malt beverage and distilled spirit tasting on licensed premises.

The permit cannot be used to permit the licensee to sell liquor for on-premise consumption.
