Voters in the Washington School District Tuesday approved a $9 million bond issue to construct a new early childhood learning center and make technology improvements in the district, but rejected a larger, $40 million bond issue to build a new middle school on land east of Washington.

The vote on Question 1, the no-tax-increase $9 million bond issue was:

Yes, 4,602, ; No, 2,462.

On Question 2, which included a 25-cent increase to the debt service levy, the vote was:

Yes, 3,567; No, 3,494.

Those are the unofficial vote totals for the school district which includes parts of Franklin, Warren and St. Charles counties.

Both of the questions on Proposition R required a 57 percent majority vote.
