A Ford Ranger pickup reported stolen in Washington in 2004 was found and pulled from the Bourbeuse River Wednesday afternoon after a man spotted it in the water off of Shawneetown Ford Road east of Union.

The late 1990s or early 2000s white pickup was discovered in a curve in the river where it comes the closest to Shawneetown Ford Road just south of the intersection of St. Louis Boulevard.

Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies at the scene said it appeared as if the vehicle had been abandoned and in the water for a long time. It was caked with mud as it was pulled from the river at about 4:30 p.m.

The sheriff’s office received the call at about 2:30 p.m. after a man who works at a farm nearby saw the truck in the river. Deputies stated that the man said he frequently eats his lunch on a rock outcropping near the river off of Shawneetown Ford Road, and he called authorities after he spotted the top of the truck under water.

The pickup had an older-designed Missouri license plate. When deputies called in the VIN number, it was reported the truck had been stolen in the city of Washington on May 25, 2004.

No other information was available.
