UPDATE: Man Charged in Attempted Holdup at Gray Summit Deli
Franklin County authorities have charged a man accused of attempting to rob a Gray Summit area business early Sunday, March 17.
Christopher J. Stricker, 26, Labadie, is charged with one count of second-degree robbery. His bond was set at $25,000 in the case.
Prosecuting Attorney Bob Parks said he may amend the charge after he has a chance to review final reports filed in the case.
Stricker, according to the sheriff’s office, allegedly entered the I-66 Deli shortly before 4:30 a.m. and began walking around the store.
When the clerk asked if he needed help, he allegedly stated that he was going to rob the store and that he was “looking for happiness,” the sheriff’s report states.
The man then picked out some items and went to the cash register. As he approached the register, he allegedly pointed his finger at her as if he had a gun.
The woman said the man then paid for the items and when she asked if he needed anything else he allegedly stated that she should give him all the money in the cash register.
Although the suspect left without taking any money, the clerk said she felt nervous and called the sheriff’s office.
Based on the clerk’s description of the suspect and his vehicle, deputies began searching the area and found the truck parked at the Gardenway Motel on Highway 100. During questioning, the man said he was only joking.
