A veteran Washington councilman was unseated by a newcomer in Tuesday’s municipal election while another councilman won re-election over his opponent.

Jeff Patke polled 442 votes, or 54.7 percent, to defeat Connie Groff who is completing her ninth year on the council representing Ward 3. Groff received 363 votes or 44.93 percent of the total.

In Ward 1, incumbent Walt Meyer outpolled his opponent, Tom Coulter, to win re-election. The vote was 393 Meyer to 341 Coulter.

Those were the only races for the Washington council in Tuesday’s election.
