Voters in Franklin County will decide a number of Republican races for county offices in next Tuesday’s primary election.
There are no Democratic contests in the county on Tuesday’s ballot.
Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
Polling places were published in this week's editions of The Missourian.
County Clerk Debbie Door, the county’s election official, is predicting a 20- to 22 percent voter turnout Tuesday.
County Commission
There are four candidates running for first district county commissioner and five for the second district seat on the GOP ticket.
The candidates for first district commissioner are:
Terry Wilson, incumbent, Washington; Ron Keeven, New Haven; Tim Brinker, Washington; and Tim Baker, Robertsville.
The first district takes in roughly the northern half of the county.
The victor in the Tuesday election will win the office because no Democrat is running in the November general election.
Five Republican candidates are running for the second district commission seat previously held by Ann Schroeder, Union, a Democrat, who is not seeking re-election.
The five candidates running for the open seat are:
Jerry Landing, Sullivan; Mark L. Falloon, Sullivan; Gary H. Young, Union; Ted W. Diez, Union; and Mike Schatz, Sullivan.
The winner of that race will face off against Teresa Connelly, a Democrat, who is running in the November election.
Circuit Judge
Presiding Circuit Judge Gael Wood, Washington, is running for a third six-year term. He is facing a challenge from Cynthia Eckelkamp, who lives east of Washington, a former associate judge and circuit judge.
Sheriff
Sheriff Gary Toelke, Union, who has held that office for 24 years, is facing a challenge for a seventh term from Gary Getman, St. Clair.
Assessor
There’s a two-way GOP race for the assessor’s office. Dan Tulley, Washington, is challenging Tom Copeland, Union. Copeland is seeking election to a second term.
The winner in that race will square off against Democrat Angela J. Beckett and Robert Trokey, who filed on the Libertarian ticket, in the November general election.
Treasurer
There’s a three-way race on the Republican ticket for the office previously held for many years by Alvin “Squeaky” Marquart, a Democrat, who is not seeking re-election. Debbie Willming Aholt, Washington, Greg Toelke, Union, and Jesse Marts, Washington are vying for the post. The winner will take the office next term because no Democrats are running for the post.
Public Administrator
Julie Bowen, Union, and Bill Isgriggs, Union, are running for the office held for the last 20 years by Carol Eckelkamp who is not seeking re-election. The victor in that primary race will face Mary Jo Straatmann, a Democrat, in November.
