For those seeking general chiropractic care, or sports rehabilitation, Elite Spine and Sport in Union has their back.
The business is operated by Dr. Krysta Spuhl, who has experience with sports medicine and rehabilitation.
Dr. Spuhl owns the business with her husband Josh Spuhl, an instructor and coach at Pacific High School. The couple have lived in Union for five years.
Krysta Spuhl has worked with Dr. Bart Coleman at Coleman Chiropractic and FIT in St. Clair.
She also works with Coleman during St. Clair High School sporting events. Spuhl helps female athletes.
“It has been a really good starting point and he (Coleman) has taught me a lot,” she said. That is where I picked up the sports (rehabilitation) and I thought it was time to open my own business.”
While Spuhl will practice sports rehabilitation, she is a general chiropractor who will work with families.
Spuhl said that many feel that chiropractors only adjust backs.
“We see a lot of that, but there is much more to it,” she said.
She noted that a goal will be to work with other health care providers to focus on disorders including TMD (temporomandibular disorders), which refers to a group of conditions that affect the jaw joint (temporomandibular joint or TMJ) and the associated muscles used in movement of the jaw and neck.
“One goal is for a growing relationship with local dentists and doctors,” she said. “I refer a lot of patients and want to have that working relationship.”
Spuhl also is certified in acupuncture. She will work with patients to lose weight and smoking cessation.
A goal for Spuhl is to offer massage therapy, physical therapy and other services to utilize the full capacity of the 1,500-square-foot office space.
Office hours are Mondays and Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 p.m.; and Saturdays by appointment.
For more information, people may call the office at 636-583-0700. It is located at No. 37 St. Andrews Drive, Union, across Highway 50 from Union Clinic near the Chapel Ridge Apartments.
