Jim’s Heating & Cooling, a Washington business that has been in operation for more than 50 years, has moved to 2132 Highway A.

Previously located on East Fifth Street, owners Dan and Teresa Haire said they couldn’t pass up an opportunity to purchase a building for their business. They leased the previous building.

“I loved being in town,” Teresa Haire said. “But it was really difficult sometimes for the large 18-wheeler delivery trucks to deliver because we were surrounded by a lot of residences.”

The couple closed on the new building in early in 2012, but didn’t want to make the move until after the busy summer. They also had to repurpose the building by adding offices and a break room, installing new flooring and laying new asphalt for the parking lot.

Haire said she’s proud that all work was provided by local businesses, including Kleekamp Brothers Construction who did interior renovations, flooring from Hoppy Interiors and painting and drywall by Bowman Painting and Drywall. Kane Electric did electrical work.

Haire also is excited about the visibility of the busy highway, as well as the sheet metal shop and equipment storage in the building’s basement. A parking lot in the back provides ample space for deliveries.

Dan Haire agreed, saying he’s also happy about the ability to expand the business over the next several years.

Donations

In October, the Haires began donating $2 from each service call to a local organization.

The October funds of $702 were donated to the Mercy Hospital cancer services. In November, funds were donated to a local organization to be used for Alzheimer’s research.

Funds from December service calls will go to Loving Hearts Outreach.

The Haires noted that they will try to continue donating to Franklin County organizations to help create a strong community.

In the busy summer months, the donation likely will be $1 from each call.

Background

Jim’s Heating & Cooling, a Carrier factory authorized dealer, has been in business since 1962. The Haires purchased the business in 2008 from Les and Maddie Crawford.

To be a factory authorized dealer, management and technicians must have constant training to stay on top of industry standards.

Prior to purchasing the business, Dan Haire was the zone manager and distribution manager for Carrier Corporation. He was part owner of a Carrier distributorship in St. Louis for more than 20 years.

Jim’s Heating & Cooling offers residential and commercial heating and cooling, indoor air quality services and geothermal heating and cooling.

Geothermal uses the constant temperature of the ground to assist in heating and cooling a home, which helps reduce energy costs.

Technicians, who are all local, are certified and participate in continuing education classes.

Dan Haire said he takes special pride in the business’s attentiveness to customer service and offers “red carpet treatment” and the wearing of booties inside homes.

“(We take pride) both in our ability to find solutions to (customers’) problems and provide prompt, courteous and knowledgeable service. We try to respect a person’s homes like it’s our own,” he said.

Often, Teresa Haire said, technicians have parts on hand and can fix a problem as soon as it’s diagnosed.

Techs are part of the Sheet Metal Workers Local No. 36 union, she noted.

Hours are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and an emergency tech is on call.

The shop can be reached at 636-239-3581.
