Parker has announced the acquisition of Micro Thermo Technologies from Carrier Corporation.
The Canadian company produces control and energy management systems for supermarket application.
Micro Thermo Technologies will be integrated into the electronics business unit of Parker’s Sporlan Division in Washington. Henrick Christensen will be the business unit manager.
Officials said the deal creates an opportunity for Parker to offer a more competitive range of electronic systems and should drive growth in the business.
Micro Thermo Technologies started as a provider of intelligent electronic modules for supermarket temperature monitoring in 1986.
In the mid-1990s, the company expanded to include a full line of refrigeration, HVAC, lighting and energy control products for supermarkets that featured precision control and real-time information for effective decision-making.
Micro Thermo’s products are installed at approximately 2,500 stores throughout North America.
The company was acquired by Carrier in 2001. A new line of products was introduced in 2005 which are targeted to supermarket chain operations. Its Enterprise Facility Management (EFM) Workstation allows store operators, at the chain level, to view and coordinate the overall operation of all stores via a real-time dashboard.
Its Web Energy Logger provides energy monitoring, demand response load shedding and real-time pricing services. These products enable supermarket operators to get the latest information about store energy consumptions in real-time, from anywhere.
“This acquisition strengthens our ability to establish the most complete range of electronic and mechanical control systems for supermarket refrigeration and HVAC systems,” said Tom Healy, president of Parker’s Climate and Industrial Control Group.
“Micro Thermo Technologies has built a strong reputation for quality electronic controls in markets that are complementary to our Sporlan brand’s mechanical controls markets in North America,” he said. “These combined capabilities extend our position as a systems provider to our customers and can help drive growth in this part of our business.”
Micro Thermo Technologies has sales of approximately $10 million for the year ended Dec. 31, 2009, and employs about 50 people.
