A new shaved ice stand “WashMO Sno” is now open in the Cinema 1 Plus parking lot, alongside Phoenix Center Drive in Washington.

The red stand, which opened June 8, can be seen from Highway 100.

Karl Mittler, one of the owners, said his wife grew up on Sno Biz (the franchise brand name). She lived in Labadie, but visited her grandparents in Bridgeton, where the closest stand was located.

“We felt this would be a great addition to Washington,” Karl Mittler said. “There’s not a real shaved ice stand in Washington.”

Mittler said the flavors are “amazing” and stay true to what they say.

“If you get homemade ice cream, it tastes like homemade ice cream,” he said, adding that shaved ice is different than snow cones.

Snow cones are harder, crunchier ice, he said, while shaved ice has a lot softer consistency.

“Once you’ve had it, it’s very distinctly different,” he said.

There are 27 flavors and more than 40 combination flavors with names like “Ninja Juice,” the most popular “Tiger’s Blood,” cotton candy, caramel apple and more.

Prices on the frozen treats range from about $2.25 to $3. Fifteen options have a cream, chocolate or caramel syrup that is an upgrade of 50 cents, Mittler said.

The hours are Mondays through Fridays from 3 to 10 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 10 p.m.

The daily schedule will run through August. In September, the stand will be open on weekends only until it gets too cold.

Grand Opening

A grand opening will be held Thursday, July 28, from 6 to 10 p.m.

Free 8-ounce servings of shaved ice will be given out throughout the evening.
