Downtown Group Will Host Cleanup Day June 9

Downtown Washington Inc. is making plans to hold another “Keep Washington Beautiful” cleanup day.
This year, the cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, June 9, from 8 a.m. to noon.
The group has sponsored several cleanup days in the past where downtown board members and staff, along with with many other volunteers, picked up trash, pulled weeds, painted, planted flowers, put down mulch, and did other beautification projects.
That same work will be done again, according to Danielle Grotewiel of Downtown Washington Inc.
“The design committee will meet with the city and Chamber to help decide what projects can be tackled by volunteers,” she said.
In the past cleanup volunteers have focused their efforts along Main, Elm and Front streets.
Grotewiel said she would love to have at least 50 volunteers.
“If we did we could probably complete all projects,” she said.
Church groups, service organizations, Scouts, families and individuals are all welcome to participate.
“We are asking those interested in helping to contact the downtown office so we can have the needed supplies available,” Grotewiel said.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the organization’s office in the old post office downtown. At noon, the Washington Lions Club will put on a lunch at the riverfront for all who helped out.
Groteweil said the first 50 people to sign up will receive a T-shirt, donated by the Bank of Washington.
