The Washington High School WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering) team finished in second place overall in the large division of the State Academic Challenge Tuesday, April 15.

“This is an amazing accomplishment,” said WHS Associate Principal Kelle McCallum.

“We are proud of our team,” she said. “Thanks to Mrs. (Connie) Lutz and Mr. (Lou) Baczewski for sponsoring the team. Much appreciation to all of the teachers who provided input to team selection.”

Washington’s individual awards are as follows:

Math — Joel Koch, third place;

English — Devon Steinkoenig, second place;

Engineering Graphics — Devon Steinkoenig, first place;

Engineering Graphics — Jonathan Kuchem, third place; and

Computer Science — Dean Hoffman, third place.

The Clayton High School team finished first.
