Update: Three people were injured, one seriously, in a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon on Highway A.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol a 1998 Ford Taurus driven by Alex R. Diener, 18, New Haven, was heading southbound on Highway A just after 12 p.m. Tuesday. A second car, a 2000 Ford Ranger driven by Michael P. Barlish, 46, Gerald, was heading northbound.
The Highway Patrol crash report said Barlish's truck crossed the center line and struck Diener's car head-on.
Diener and a passenger in his car, Aaron N. Westhoff, 15, Washington, were transported by Washington Ambulance to Mercy Hospital. Both were wearing safety devices and sustained moderate injuries.
Barlish was transported to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur by Air Evac helicopter with serious injuries. He was not wearing a safety device and needed to be cut out of his truck.
Washington Fire and ambulance crews worked the scene along with the highway patrol. Both lanes of traffic were shut down for several minutes as crews responded to the trash.
Both lanes of traffic were reopened just after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
