Update at 10:05 p.m.: Washington Water/Wastewater Superintendent Kevin Quaethem said there is nothing wrong with the treatment plant.
Quaethem said emergency crews checked the plant after a loud noise was heard in the area and found no issues. He said there was not an explosion at the plant.
He said all the levels in the plant were normal and everything was operating "correctly and properly."
No alarms sounded at the plant and no issues were reported, Quaethem said.
Previous story: Washington fire and police responded to a call of an explosion on the east end of town near the city's Wastewater Treatment Plant Wednesday evening.
Crews were checking the building, as of 7:50 p.m. Washington fire Chief Bill Halmich told The Missourian all was clear.
