Mercy Hospital Washington

A faulty blower in HVAC equipment at Mercy Hospital Washington’s North Wing prompted a visit from fire crews Thursday afternoon.

The Washington Fire Department responded to a report of smoke in Mercy’s North Wing Thursday, March 16, at 4:35 p.m.

Washington Fire Chief Bill Halmich said smoke and a burning smell were reported on the second floor of the building, but no clear source could be identified by the time fire crews left the scene.

Halmich said Mercy’s maintenance crew later found the source early Friday at 1:22 a.m. A seized up air booster motor in Suite 208 was deemed the culprit.
