A request to operate a Vacation Rental By Owner in Washington has been withdrawn by the applicant.
Sarah Monzyk, 1208 Deer Run Drive, in the Deer Run subdivision, withdrew her request for a special use permit prior to Monday night’s city council meeting.
The Washington Planning and Zoning Commission last month recommended the city vote down requests from Monzyk and Joette Reidy, 112 Lake Washington Drive, in the Lake Washington subdivision, who sought to offer rooms in their home for rent. Reidy withdrew her request last month.
Neighbors of both homes spoke out at the Oct. 9 planning and zoning meeting and the Oct. 16 city council meeting.
The council took the comments under advisement, however, no ordinance was presented during the meeting.
Community and Economic Development Director Sal Maniaci stated the homeowners brought their requests to the zoning commission after he contacted them when he saw ads for their room rentals during the solar eclipse on AirBnB, an online marketplace where people lease or rent lodging. A special use permit is required for Washington residents in most zoning districts to rent out rooms or homes for short-term use.
Maniaci has said all of the rentals are subject to the city’s 5 percent tourism tax and owners must purchase a merchants license.
