The Washington Parks and Recreation department announced Tuesday the office will be moving this fall.
Currently, the parks office is located at 1220 S. Lakeshore Drive, Washington.
The announcement came via their Facebook page, Washington Missouri Parks.
The office will be relocated to the lower level of city hall at 405 Jefferson St. in Downtown Washington effective Oct. 1.
Parks Director Darren Dunkle said the current office will be repurposed for maintenance activities, which is what warranted the move in the first place.
Initially, the plan for the capital improvement sales tax funds was to build a new parks administration building.
The parks board then discussed moving the office to the old pool house or the basement of the auditorium. By doing so, the old parks office would be used for storage, dropping the cost of a maintenance facility.
Funds from the half-cent capital improvement sales tax approved in April included plans to renovate the city auditorium.
Dunkle said while there were several possible locations discussed, moving to city hall made the most sense.
“It would be more efficient to be located at city hall with other city services,” he said.
The department’s phone number, 636-390-1080, will stay the same.
The next parks board meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 6.
