The Washington Park Board extended their gratitude to Chad Owens, foreman, and Robin Peirick, recreation coordinator, for their help while the department was director-less.
“Since Darren Dunkle left, I can’t say thank you enough to Chad and Robin,” Jeff Patke, city councilman, said Wednesday during the board meeting. “It’s been a real pleasure. Through the fees meetings, pool meetings and park meetings, it doesn’t go without notice.”
“I think the entire board seconds that,” Sparky Stuckenschneider, park board member, said. “You have done a great job.”
Previous Parks Director Darren Dunkle accepted a director position with the city of Fenton. His last day with Washington was Oct. 3, 2018.
Dunkle had been with the department since December of 2011.
The new hire, Wayne Dunker, is scheduled to start Monday, Jan. 7.
Dunker visited Friday afternoon to tour the facilities and meet city hall staff.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with the citizens of Washington,” Dunker said.
Dunker said his first task will be getting to know the staff and city workers.
He would eventually like to incorporate their ideas to improve the parks to better serve the community.
