Missourian Wins Many Awards

Missourian newspapers won 47 awards in the 2017 Better Newspaper contest sponsored by the Missouri Press Association and its Foundation. The awards included 11 first-place honors. The Missourian newspapers won 47 awards, including 11 for first place, in the 2017 Better Newspaper Contest sponsored by the Missouri Press Association and the Missouri Press Foundation.

The Wednesday and Weekend newspapers also won 18 second-place, 13 third-place and five honorable mention awards in the state competition.

The awards were presented Saturday, Sept. 30, at the 151st MPA convention held in Springfield.

This was the first time in 20 years when The Missourian swept a category, garnering first-, second- and third-place awards in Best Feature Photo, all captured by Photo Editor Jeanne Miller Wood. The last time all top three awards in the same category were presented to The Missourian was in 1997, also captured by Wood.

The Missourian newspapers that won awards include editions in Washington, Union and St. Clair.
