The Franklin County BackStoppers Committee will host “Fright Fest, a Halloween Haunted House,” Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26, from 6 to 9:30 each night, at the Washington Fire Training Center.

The center is located on M.L. Unnerstall Drive in the Heidmann Industrial Park.

The event will feature a child-friendly house for smaller children and a much scarier house for the older kids.

A variety of activities, including a games section for children, will be available. There will be a $5 charge for the older kids’ house. Popcorn and beverages will also be available for purchase.

All proceeds will benefit The BackStoppers, a non-profit organization that comes to the aid of the families of fallen police officers, firefighters, and EMS workers who are killed in the line of duty.

All finances for the fallen’s family are taken care of, both current and in the future — including tuition for children, mortgages, etc.

The BackStoppers serves 13 counties in Missouri, including Franklin County, and six in southern Illinois.

“The BackStoppers step in and takes care of families at a time they are so overwhelmed they cannot take care of themselves,” stated Washington Police Chief Ken Hahn, who serves on the board of directors of The BackStoppers and is the Franklin County Committee chairman.

“This organization literally rescues a family overwrought by grief at the loss of their loved one and provider. And they continue to support the families as long as they need assistance. I can think of no greater organization to support than The BackStoppers. We encourage all families to come out and enjoy the haunted house, and to also support this wonderful organization by becoming a member of The BackStoppers,” said Chief Hahn.
