Downtown Washington Inc. is looking for volunteers for its annual “Keep Washington Beautiful” Cleanup Day scheduled for Saturday, June 16, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This year, the downtown group will expanded its efforts in partnership with the Washington Parks Department.
“This is the ninth year for us to be doing this downtown, but we’ll also expand out to the main city park,” said Bridgette Kelch, Downtown Washington Inc. executive director.
“We will be working on landscaping, picking up trash, pulling weeds, doing some painting and light maintenance projects,” she said. “We will work in the downtown area, the riverfront park, the main park pavilion, the city pool area and city auditorium.”
Church groups, businesses, schools, Scouts, families and individuals are welcome to help out.
Kelch said kids are welcome with adult supervision.
“Our goal is 75 volunteers or more because we have a lot of ground to cover,” she said.
Volunteers should meet that morning at the post office at Second and Lafayette streets and assignments will be given out.
“We ask that people sign up in advance so we have a good idea of how many projects we can tackle,” Kelch said.
The Lions Club will provide lunch for all of the volunteers at noon that day at the riverfront park.
T-shirts, being provided by Arconic, will be given out — while supplies last — to all of the volunteers.
Downtown Washington Inc. board members and staff also will help in the cleanup.
Kelch said if people have work gloves to bring them along, but all other materials and supplies will be provided, including bottled water.
“Anyone who is interested in keeping Downtown Washington and the city park beautiful is welcome to join us,” she said said.
