Franklin County detectives are investigating a shooting incident Sunday in which a Robertsville man was wounded in the stomach.

Sheriff Gary Toelke said someone dropped off the man, Justin Ridens, 27, at the Meramec Ambulance garage in Robertsville about 9 a.m. Sunday.

Ambulance personnel transported Ridens to Mercy Hospital St. Louis and notified the sheriff’s office of the shooting.

Toelke said detectives went to the hospital but Ridens was in surgery and could not be questioned.

Ambulance personnel said Ridens told them that he had shot himseslf but would not elaborate on where or how it happened.

The sheriff said the man’s condition was not known as of Monday morning.
