The Washington City Council authorized the city to apply for grant funds for resurfacing Stafford and 14th streets through the Franklin County Transportation Committee.

The city will apply for a maximum of $50,000. Each year, 5 percent of the county sales tax is designated to the cities for various transportation projects, explained Dan Boyce, city engineer. The funds are split between entities that apply for the funding.

Grant money toward the road overlays has been provided by the East-West Gateway Council of Governments.

The resolution, which will become a part of the grant application, states that the streets are deteriorated, lack sidewalks and are in need of rehabilitation.

The resolution will be a part of the grant application, Boyce said.
