The historic school records of the Augusta School District, prior to its merger with the Washington School District, will be moved to the St. Charles County government archives to be available for research.

The Washington School Board approved the transfer of the records at its November meeting with the understanding the county will ensure the records are maintained in accordance with state law and the district will always have access to copy, reproduce, or inspect the record in the future upon request.

St. Charles County and staff also agree to not disclose information contained in the records that are determined confidential by the district.

The Washington School District retains ownership of the record per the agreement.

Superintendent Dr. Lori VanLeer said she was contacted several months ago by Steve Ehlmann, St. Charles County executive, on behalf of the St. Charles County Historical Advisory Board, regarding their interest in the school records.

VanLeer said the district consulted with an attorney at MSBA (Missouri School Boards Association) and we were told per 160.061, RSMO, the law allows the county clerk to maintain school records “of a historical, statutory or informational nature that were formerly maintained by the county superintendent of schools.”
