Washington Farmers’ Market Season to Kick Off April 13

Organizers and vendors of the Washington Farmers’ Market are looking forward to opening day, which is set for Saturday, April 13, at 8 a.m.

Like last year, there will be several special activities to kick off the season, including a countdown to opening. There will be an activity for children, barbecue available for purchase and live music, said Amanda Griesheimer, Chamber marketing director.

“Vendors are thrilled to be getting back to the market and hoping for good weather,” she said.

So far, about 32 vendors are confirmed. Griesheimer said there are usually around 60 vendors by the end of the season and that the market should be full again this year.

The Farmers’ Market will be open at 8 a.m. Saturdays through December and will open on Wednesdays from June 5 through Oct. 3, from 3 to 6 p.m. The covered market is located at 317 W. Main St. in Downtown Washington.

New This Year

This year, there are several new produce vendors and a kettle corn vendor who will pop kettle corn at the market.

Other items will include potted plants, bedding plants, homemade craft items, decorative items, baked goods, jams and jellies, meat and other items.

“We have a little bit of everything,” Griesheimer said. “People are really excited to buy fresh, local produce, but it’s really neat all of the extra things you get when you come to the market.”

Also new this year is market cash, or gift certificates to the farmers’ market. Market cash can be purchased at the Washington Chamber of Commerce.

Griesheimer said a sample day is being organized, where people will be able to sample food items.

Vendors

Spaces for vendors are still available. Those interested in selling items at the market may contact Griesheimer, 636-239-2715, extension 106.

Vendors must be from Franklin or an adjoining county. Additionally, all items must be handmade, home grown or home baked.
