Washington High School will hold its 112th commencement ceremony this Friday, May 17, at 7 p.m. in the Blue Jay Gymnasium on the high school campus.

Diplomas will be presented to over 300 seniors.

“I love to see our graduates walk across the stage, celebrating the end of one journey and the beginning of another,” said Superintendent Dr. Lori VanLeer. “I wish the Class of 2013 all the best. I’m very proud of their accomplishments.”

Principal Dr. Frank Wood will give the welcome and introduce special guests.

Senior Alison Proemsey, class vice president, will lead the audience in the pledge of allegiance.

The WHS choir, led by Kimberly Jeffs, will perform the national anthem and school song.

Students earning honors and high honors will be recognized by Assistant Principal Steve Pryor and Associate Principal Kelle McCallum.

VanLeer and Scott Byrne, school board president, will present the Class of 2013. School board members will help hand out diplomas.

Jessica Riegel, class president, will lead seniors in the turning of the tassel.

Dr. Wood will give the closing remarks.

The other class officers are Rachel Jackson, secretary; Alyssa Johnson, treasurer; Claire Knight, student rep; and Shaneesa Immekus, student rep.

Seating

Floor seating is reserved for graduating seniors and Washington High School staff only.

The gym doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for bleacher seating.

Limited overflow seating will be available in the CJB Theatre and the ceremony will be broadcast live on the projector screen.

Parking

School officials said parking on campus is limited. Family and friends are encouraged to utilize the 14th Street commuter lot for commencement parking.

A shuttle service will be available from 5 to 6:45 p.m. and will drop off in front of the main Blue Jay Gymnasium entrance.

Return shuttle service will be available for approximately 60 to 90 minutes following the ceremony.

The Mercy parking lot across from campus also will be available for parking after 6 p.m.

Live Broadcast

For family and friends unable to attend graduation, a live video broadcast will be available on the district website. The broadcast will begin at 7 p.m. central time. It is recommended that people tune in a few minutes early as there is often a paid advertisement before the broadcast begins.

The Class of 2013’s motto is “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it,” by William A. Word.

Their class song is “Tattoos on This Town,” by Jason Aldean, and the class flower is the sunflower.

The senior class gift is signage for the WHS campus.
