Washington police are investigating a new round of vehicle break-ins in the city.

Detectives were questioning a suspect Friday morning.

Between late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, someone went through nine parked vehicles and in some cases stole various items, police said.

Police said about 6 a.m. Thursday, a woman reported hearing what she thought was a gunshot that broke out a window on her car, but when they investigated, police found a brick had been used to break the window, according to a report.

The woman reported that her purse was stolen from the car. Police said the purse and some contents were recovered in a nearby yard later, but money that was in the purse was missing.

The woman gave a description of a man she saw running from the area.

The other cars were all unlocked, police said. In some cases the vehicles were entered but nothing was stolen.

Following are the locations of the car break-ins: 300 block of Burnside Street; 100 block of Market Street; 15 East Second St.; 120 East Main St.; the 200 block of East Main; Seventh and Walnut streets; 204 East Main St.; and the 400 block of East Third Street.

It’s the second round of car break-ins police have investigated in the last month.
