Race for the Rivers, the annual Missouri River canoe and kayak race sponsored by The Greenway Network, will be in Washington this Saturday morning, Aug. 24.
Paddlers competing in the 40-mile race will depart from Rennick Riverfront Park at 9 a.m.
The competition also includes a 20-mile race that will depart from the Weldon Spring boat ramp at 9 a.m.
Both races end at Frontier Park in St. Charles, where a Race for the Rivers Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Racers are expected to arrive around noon, and an awards ceremony will be held at 4 p.m.
There are several good viewing spots along the course of the race. The Klondike Park Boat ramp, the Weldon Spring Boat Ramp and the Page Avenue Extension all have direct views of the river and safe places to stand and watch.
The festival will feature food, music, booths, vendors and kids’ activities.
