The fifth annual Downtown Washington Clean Up Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, from 8 a.m. to noon.
Sponsored by Downtown Washington Inc., volunteers will pull and spray weeds, mulch, plant flowers, pick up trash and do some light maintenance.
“We are looking for volunteers of all ages to help with projects all around the downtown area,” said Danielle Grotewiel, event coordinator.
“This is a great project for students, Scouts, church groups, businesses, families — anyone who is interested in keeping Washington beautiful,” she said.
Children are welcome, but need to be accompanied by an adult.
Downtown Washington Inc. board members and staff also will help in the cleanup.
Volunteers will receive a free T-shirt, while supplies last. Lunch also will be provided at noon by the Lions Club.
Grotewiel said the downtown organization is working with city officials to determine what projects need to be tackled.
The Washington Garden Club and the America in Bloom committee will be working that day as well at the downtown post office.
Volunteers can sign up by calling 636-239-1743, emailing email@example.com or through the website at www.downtownwashmo.org. Information also is available on the organization’s Facebook page.
“Or people can just show up that morning, but to guarantee a T-shirt, it’s best to sign up in advance,” Grotewiel said.
Volunteers should dress appropriately, she said, wear sunscreen and bring extra water and work gloves.
