The man injured Tuesday afternoon walking along the riverfront in Washington was transported to Mercy Hospital with minor injuries, Fire Chief Bill Halmich said.
The man, whose name was unavailable Wednesday, apparently tripped, fell and hurt his ankle, Halmich said.
He called 911 on his cell phone, and police and emergency medical services responded but initially had trouble locating him.
The fire department assisted in pulling the man up the hill with ropes and a rescue basket. This allowed him to be safely pulled up the hill over rocks and other debris, Halmich said.
The man was found on the riverbank at the very east end of the parking lot at Rennick Riverfront Park.
