Sandy Borgman has been named principal of South Point Elementary, effective July 1.

The Washington School Board approved the appointment at a meeting Monday night.

Borgman replaces Eric Lause, who was reassigned within the district earlier this school year. Lause is moving to the St. Clair School District where he will serve as junior high assistant principal.

After Lause’s reassignment, Borgman and Cara Jones were appointed as co-prinicpals at South Point to serve out the remainder of the year. Jones will remain at South Point as assistant principal. She did not seek the principal position.

Superintendent Dr. Lori VanLeer said the district interviewed a total of seven candidates — three of whom are district employees. The interview committee included two teachers, two principals and several district administrators.

The committee narrowed the field to three finalists and a second round of interviews were conducted by VanLeer.

Borgman began working for the Washington School District in August 2005. She has worked as a special education teacher, process coordinator and most recently interim assistant principal at South Point.

She earned an associate degree in speech pathology from East Central College in 1994 and Bachelor of Science degree in communication disorders from Southeast Missouri University in 1996. In 2000, she completed her master’s degree in teaching from Lindenwood University and an education specialist degree from Lindenwood in 2010.

Borgman will be paid $69,000 in her new role.
