The Washington School Board has agreed to have its general contractor on the Early Learning Center project seeks bids for playground construction so it can be completed over the summer.

At its meeting last week, the board approved an increase in Lawlor Corporation’s construction allowance to allow for playground construction.

The design of the playground was not finalized at the time the building project was bid. The district had planned to incorporate the equipment into its summer maintenance work schedule but is worried it would not get completed with the workload of moving into the new facility.

Since Lawlor is on site and closing out the building project, its superintendent will monitor and coordinate the playground installation.

Lawlor will solicit multiple bids from subcontractors for the work, said Superintendent Dr. Lori VanLeer, which will expedite the project.
