The U.S. Navy Parachute team, the Leap Frogs, will land on Rauch Field at Washington High School Friday, May 2, at 9 a.m.

WHS Principal Dr. Frank Wood said members of the squad will then take questions from students for about 20 minutes.

Wood said he received an email from the Navy saying the parachute team was going to participate in the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show, which coincides with Navy Week, and was available to do a jump at WHS.

“We were selected because we’re starting a Naval JROTC program here next year,” Wood said. “The whole thing will probably last about 40 minutes because they’re scheduled to do three or four jumps at other sites that day.”

Wood said students and teachers from both the high school and middle school will be able to attend the outdoor assembly.

The Leap Frogs team consists of active-duty personnel drawn from Naval Special Warfare (NSW), including Navy SEALs, Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewmen (SWCC) and support personnel.

The Leap Frogs are all volunteers. The team is sanctioned by the Department of Defense and recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The Leap Frogs are scheduled to land outside the St. Louis Science Center Thursday, May 1, at 9:45 a.m. and will visit the Science Center from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
