Washington School District Superintendent Dr. Lori VanLeer will reconvene her community advisory team this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the administration building.

“At our last meeting, the team brainstormed to begin developing ideas around a volunteer program, specifically, the Shine by 9 concept, to help struggling readers in grades kindergarten through third,” VanLeer said.

“We are in the process developing the mission, vision, values and goals,” she said. “Team members will review their work from our last meeting and discuss the drafts.”

VanLeer also plans to update the committee on the district’s 21st Century Learning Plan, focusing on technology.

The advisory team is another way for the district to keep the lines of communication open, VanLeer said. The community team is open to parents, business leaders and patrons.

New committee members are always welcome, said VanLeer, who encourages anyone interested to attend the next meeting or call the administration office.
